Division President Case Study

THE EXECUTIVE’S CHALLENGE:

The controversial departure of highly visible EVP/Division President Bradley Johnson less than two years after he joined the bank raised questions about his effectiveness. It was widely known that the CEO did not want him to remain, even though they had once been colleagues at another institution. Under the circumstances, he was justifiably concerned about those who would ask “If he’s so great, why would they want him to leave?”

DAN COBEN’S RESUME STRATEGY:

“I set out to build Bradley Johnson a resume that would quickly nullify any cynical doubts about his performance by objectively and powerfully demonstrating that he knocked the cover off the ball and was the best thing that ever happened to that division. His revenue generating stats were undeniably outstanding, so I chose to lead with them (rather than leading up to them) and then succinctly described three of his most clever strategies to achieve those numbers.”

THE RESULTS:

Bank Division President Bradley Johnson secured interviews and job offers at several Fortune 500 companies, ultimately accepting a COO position in one of them that included a major equity stake and positioned him as the CEO’s successor.
